I have always asked myself these questions. I have interest in exploring the true substance of nature and metaphysical world inquiry into spiritual depth: the Light, Taoism, Yin and Yang, Unity Relations, Harmony and Cosmological Order. It is my attempt to search for trying to find the answers to these questions through simplified abstraction or symbolism.
In oil paintings, large format woodblock prints and paper collages, I explore this philosophical concept of dynamic balance at the root of East Asian worldview. Yin and Yang talks about the opposites. It is a thought that everything exists in this universe can be divided into that of Yin and Yang. But this opposition is not about conflict. This is a concept that complements each other forming a unity. This is not being stationary either. It is changing moment, therefore, it contains life which resonates.
Closer examination of my work reveals subtle depth of texture and color, massive images and opossite concepts of it. Bold and vibrating with protean tension, images seem to fill volumes far beyond their borders.
I use acrylics and oil color on large canvas or I make paper collage and woodblock prints from miniature to large. Because I employ meticulous brush work and hand drawing on my prints, each small edition edition print is unique. My finished prints can be classified somewhere in between multiples and originals.
I have held more than 200 shows at home and abroad including Switzerland, Taiwan, Japan, Hungary, Germany and USA. And there were ten solo Exhibitions.
About Work
Soundless Sound
In my heart and in my mind, I sense a soundless sound which reverberates from within me and from all of nature. When the soundless sound ends, silence begins. Each defines the other.
Three elements of my work
Simplicity
- A simple and strong flow of energy (chi)
- Simple and restrained lines, shapes and colors convey the bare essence of phenomena without ornamentation
- Surfaces show subtle, delicate movement of lines, colors and textures which play off each other defining simple and quiet spaces just as nature shows its beauty through simple rules governing complex phenomena
Empty Space
- For meditation
- For breathing
- It begins where the sound of silence stops
- It's not there but present, it's there but absent
Harmony in contrast
- Contrast two opposite aspects phenomena and balance them
- Show coexistence of opposites. For examples: macro and micro, part and whole, being and not being, lightness and heaviness, expansion and shrikage, tesion and relaxation
- Search for the homogeneity of nature in different objects by contrasting them. For instances: show 'birth' in a seed and womb, show 'living' in a breathing bronchus and the trunk of a tree
